Dr. Ming Li is an internationally experienced petroleum exploration and field-development specialist with nearly four decades of industry experience.
His professional work has long focused on integrated petroleum geology, oil and gas play and exploration-target evaluation, well placement, structural geology, seismic interpretation and field-development planning. He has participated in more than 40 major oilfield-development projects in China and the United States, combining scientific research, exploration and development with hands-on oilfield operating and management experience.
Throughout his career, Dr. Li has been responsible for technical data analysis, exploration studies, development planning, production supervision and long-term technical support for capital-intensive oilfield projects.
He previously held senior research and management positions associated with two of China’s most important producing regions, the Changqing Oilfield and the technically complex Tarim Oilfield. His major technical work has included deep and complex carbonate-reservoir studies, production expansion in the Liaohe and Daqing oilfields, large-scale oil and gas development in the Ordos Basin, and new-area exploration in the Tarim Basin.
Dr. Li also led exploration work involving deep Cambrian dolomite reservoirs that contributed to a major PetroChina risk-exploration discovery in 2012. His international project experience includes complex oil and gas studies in Sudan’s Muglad Basin and the Jabung Block in India.
His academic background is equally extensive. Dr. Li studied at Changchun College of Geology, the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences and China University of Geosciences, and was among China’s early postdoctoral researchers in the field. He later served as a professor and doctoral advisor, training five postdoctoral researchers and more than twenty doctoral and master’s students.
In 1994, he participated in a major China-U.S. research program on deep seismic reflection across the Himalaya and Tibetan Plateau, serving as leader of the wide-angle seismic-reflection expert group. After field data acquisition, he became a visiting scholar at Stanford University, and in 1996 published related research as first author in Science.
Dr. Li has published more than 40 academic papers and authored or co-authored 11 professional books. His work on geophysical exploration technology for lithological and stratigraphic reservoirs received a national publishing award and was subsequently supported by Elsevier for international publication. He holds multiple Chinese national invention patents and has received major national and industry awards, including a First Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and other high-level technical innovation honors.
Role at EPA
At Elite Property Advisors, Dr. Li serves as the Chief Technical Advisor for oil and gas exploration and field development.
He leads the review of geological interpretation, exploration potential, well-location strategy, development planning and production assumptions.
His role is to help investors answer one fundamental question:
Does the geological and production evidence actually support the resource and development story behind the investment?
