Joe Sage

Energy Investment Underwriting & Data Analytics

Joe Sage brings a multidisciplinary background spanning chemical engineering, finance, technology, data analytics and energy investment analysis.

He studied Chemical Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and later completed graduate study at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He has also completed advanced training in computer science and artificial intelligence through Stanford-related professional education and entered the UC Berkeley Haas MBA program in 2024.

Joe’s earlier professional experience included financial markets, securities trading, hedge-fund-related strategies and investment work supporting family business interests. He later expanded into technology and data-oriented work, developing a strong ability to identify, acquire, organize and analyze information from digital, public and historical sources.

This combination is particularly valuable in oil and gas investing, where important information is frequently fragmented across historical well records, production histories, regulatory databases, operator materials, technical reports, maps, public filings and other data sources.

Joe’s work may include:

  • Oil and gas investment underwriting

  • Historical production-data analysis

  • Project cash-flow modeling

  • Ownership and economic-interest analysis

  • Investor profit-sharing review

  • Commodity-price and market analysis

  • Public-record and database research

  • Data extraction and reconciliation

  • Technical-document research

  • Tax and financial-structure research

  • Sensitivity and downside analysis

  • Cross-validation of investment assumptions

He is particularly effective at comparing the story presented in an investment package with the underlying data and identifying where technical, financial or economic assumptions require further verification.

Role at EPA

At Elite Property Advisors, Joe provides the investment underwriting, data analytics and financial-research perspective for oil and gas projects.

He works with senior petroleum specialists to translate geological, production and development conclusions into investment economics.

His role focuses on two important questions:

Do the underlying data support the economic story being presented to investors?

and

Does the investor’s share of the economics appropriately reflect the technical and financial risk being assumed?
